The whirlwind tour continues... we left Augsburg and travelled onto Legoland where we celebrated Morgan's birthday and met up with my friend Caroline and her lovely family. We have been friends for over 40 years and met in Algeria when we were mere toddlers ;-) We had a great time, went on lots of rides and kept our cool in the awesome lego shop (mainly due to luggage restrictions!).
It was hard to leave Schweinfurt, Augsburg and Legoland - so many memories, friends and family. At least the world is easy to cross with social media!
That night, went on to Hohenschwangau where we drove into a fantastic alpine thunderstorm - couldn't see past a few metres in front of us - but it was amazing! Arrived to a ghostly view of Neuschwanstein right outside the bedroom window. Couldn't have asked for better :-) The next day we ran up to Hohenschwangau castle as we were a tad late for our tour but made it just in time (chatted for too long to the lady in the hotel...). Unfortunately, you are not allowed to take pictures inside but it was a great intro for the next castle tour! We travelled much more serenely by horse-drawn coach up the mountain to Neuschwanstein. Just stunning. And slightly odd but given the madness of King Ludwig, perfectly understandable :-)
We met up with my mum's side of the family in Munich. Long lost relatives, I haven't seen since I was a little girl, hugging aunties and cousins and meeting new faces as the family grows. Just awesome. Time for the next generation to make and keep those connections going.
It was very hard to leave Munich - we also said goodbye to my mum who is off to Vancouver on her way home to New Zealand. Overnight train to Venice! Yaye!
